Two Books to Receive San Antonio Conservation Society Award

The San Antonio Conservation Society is giving a 2009 Citation to two of our books: Espiritu Santo de Zuniga: A Frontier Mission in South Texas by Tamra Lynn Walter, and House of Plenty: The Rise, Fall, and Revival of Luby's Cafeterias, by Carol Dawson and Carol Johnston. Congratulations to these authors!

Author Receives University Award

October 2008: Denise Schmandt-Besserat received the University Co-op Robert W. Hamilton Award for best book published by a University of Texas faculty or staff member for her book When Writing Met Art. The Press is honored to have been able to publish this book, and we congratulate Professor Schmandt-Besserat on her award.

Book Receives Western Writing Award

September 2008: What Wildness is This: Women Write About the Southwest by Susan Witting Albert, Susan Hanson, Jan Epton Seale, and Paula Stallings Yost has been selected as the 2008 Winner of the WILLA Literary Award for Creative Nonfiction. The WILLA awards are sponsored by Women Writing the West.

2008-2009 UT Press Fellowship Recipients Announced

Congratulations to Christopher Chung and Susanna Reynolds Hill, the 2008-2009 UT Press Fellows.

Book on Yemen Wins Award

August 2008: A Tribal Order: Politics and Law in the Mountains of Yemen, by Shelagh Weir, has won the British-Kuwait Friendship Prize in Middle Eastern Studies, coordinated by BRISMES (British Society for Middle Eastern Studies).
